Academy Award winning costume designer Colleen Atwood and Academy Award nominated film composer Marco Beltrami will receive the Distinguished Costume Designer and Distinguished Film Composer awards at this year’s Middleburg FIlm Festival. Atwood will receive her award October 31 and Beltrami on November 1. Both award ceremonies are to feature career retrospectives and in-depth dialogues concerning the artists and their respective mediums. Atwood was the brains behind the electric designs in films such as “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “Chicago.”
Beltrami frequently works in the genres of horror and science fiction; this year his compositions appeared in films such as “The Giver,” “The Drop” and “Snowpiercer.” Currently Beltrami is working on the score for “True Story,” directed by Rupert Gold starring James Franco, Felicity Jones and Jonah Hill.
Middleburg’s executive director Susan Koch expressed her excitement for this year’s picks. “Colleen Atwood is a long-time collaborator with director Tim Burton on his dark and quirky films such as ‘Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ and ‘Sleepy Hollow.’ Marco Beltrami is known for his horror and thriller scores, including the ‘Scream’ movies. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the Halloween weekend than with these two fantastic artists,” she said.
