Walt Disney Studios will begin production this month on “The Finest Hours.” Shot on location in Massachusetts, the new film reunites Disney with “Million Dollar Arm” director Craig Gillespie, who will helm this retelling of the February 1952 Coast Guard rescue of more than 30 stranded sailors on a sinking vessel off the New England Coast.
The film stars some of Hollywood’s easiest-on-the-eyes, including Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, and Holliday Grainger. Screenwriters are Oscar nominees Paul Tamsay and Eric Johnson (“The Fighter”), and Academy Award nominee Scott Silver (“The Fighter,” “8 Mile”).
Will “The Finest Hours,” based on the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, deliver a prestige “thriller,” or join the ranks of bulked-up, action-packed blockbusters? We’ll know when the film is released in Fall 2015.
