Alternative Content is a rapidly growing sector of the theatrical landscape in this country (as witnessed by the voluminous upcoming schedule of events listed below) but this segment of the filmed content business is enjoying an even more robust year in Europe. On October 16th at the Genesis Cinema in London, the Events Cinema Association will hold its annual ECA Conference (which Box Office Insider will be attending and covering) and also will present its second annual ECA Awards, recognizing the achievements at the box office that the Event Cinema industry has made of the last 12 months. Nominations this year include the British Museum’s record-breaking Pompeii Live, which contributed to establishing the museum and gallery exhibition firmly as a mainstream genre, the National Theatre Live’s War Horse presentation, the Peter Grimes, Henrik Ibsen play Ghosts, which the was the world’s first Dolby Atmos event cinema release, the Canonization of the Pope live in 3D and what was undoubtedly Pope Francis’ least favorite filmed event of the year, Monty Python (Almost) Live from the O2 Arena,
