One mistake followed by a lie changes the life of one dedicated cop in the Aussie crime flick/moral fable “Felony.” Written by and starring Joel Edgerton, the film offers more than your standard procedural, with a twisty tale about loyalty and the untruths we tell ourselves and others to stay out of trouble.
Co-starring Tom Wilkinson and Jai Courtney and directed by Matthew Saville, the story follows cop Malcolm Toohey (Edgerton), whose night of celebrating a major drug bust becomes a nightmare when he accidentally runs over and kills a young boy on his way home. Initially claiming he found the already injured child on the street, soon Malcolm is trying to cover his tracks from dogged investigator Jim Melic (Courtney), while the veteran Carl Summer (Wilkinson) tries to help Malcolm cover it up. It’s a tense triangle from which no one emerges unscathed. In the exclusive clip below, you can check out a sequence from early in the film at the scene of the crime.
“Felony” is now available on VOD and opens in theaters on October 17th.
