Tweetable Logline: Two aspiring academics and best friends take a road trip through Wisconsin to compete for the same university teaching job.
Elevator Pitch: Ironwood is a comedic, bitter-sweet buddy-road trip movie set in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It tells the story of two best friends and aspiring academics—Devin and Caleb—who find out they’re both being interviewed for the same teaching position at a university in the Upper Peninsula. Devin and Caleb take a road trip together for the interview, and plan to relax by going camping afterwards in a beautiful old growth forest. But when Jane McGinnis—a professor from the university’s hiring committee—comes along on the camping trip, the competition between Devin and Caleb ramps up in weird, funny and heartbreaking ways.

About the film: I’ve spent eight years pursuing a PhD in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During that time, I formed various friendships. Some fell apart. Some grew strong. My most memorable experience was a road trip to go camping in the Porcupine Mountains. There was something that resonated with me there. I felt pressures of academic life didn’t matter. I wasn’t sure why I felt the way I did, or why some friendships grew while others withered away. I like to make sense of things through story-telling, comedy, making a film and sharing. “Ironwood” is my attempt at just that.
Current Status: We are currently in pre-production, and fundraising.
