Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper must like each other a lot. They’ve appeared together in three movies almost in a row: “Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle” and now the upcoming and long-delayed “Serena” (which was actually shot before the ‘Hustle’, the 2ndDavid O. Russell collaboration, after ‘Playbook’).
“Jennifer is such a wonderful girl. We’ve had so much fun working together and I’m so proud of her success,” Cooper recently told a South Jersey Magazine. “She’s one of the most down-to-earth and unpretentious individuals you could ever meet, and it’s such a pleasure to spend time with her. Jennifer is incredibly talented and she’s one of those natural performers who are instinctively good at what they do.”
The movie’s narrative revolves around the emotional turmoil resulting after Lawrence’s titular character discovers she is unable to bear children and takes her anger out on her husband’s illegitimate son. While the film was shot two years ago, apparently shaping the right tone in the edit was tough. “There were no reshoots or anything like that,” one source told The Hollywood Reporter. “It was just a real precision edit because the story is about a woman’s descent into madness. And [director] Susanne [Bier] is a total perfectionist.”
There’s been a lot he said/she said back and forth about the film: some say it’s a complete disaster, others say its completely fine. We’ll find out soon enough. In a recent Thompson On Hollywood interview, Magnolia chief Eamonn Bowles revealed that “Serena” will hit VOD first on February 26th and it will be followed by a theatrical release on March 27th.
But overseas, the film will arrive in U.K. cinemas on October 24th , and will make its European premiere at the BFI London Film Festival. [Photos via Digital Spy]
