TRAILER: “The Hero of Color City”

TRAILER: "The Hero of Color City"

It’s been a record year for animated features being played in movie theaters – at least here in Los Angeles. I personally keep track of the releases on my Animated Movie Guide page. There, I have 19 legitimate Oscar possibilities (Big Hero 6, Boxtrolls, Dragon 2, et al) and 12 anime, independent and foreign theatricals (The Pirate Fairy, Jack and the Cucko Clack Heart, Slugterra, etc.) for a total of 31 features so far (who knows what else will emerge before Oscar cut-off.

Lest we forget, The Hero of Color City is opening October 3rd via Magnolia Pictures. Directed by my Asifa-Hollywood colleague Frank Gladstone and featuring vocals by Christina Ricci, Wayne Brady, Rosie Perez, Craig Ferguson, Owen Wilson and Sean Astin – as well as some of the stalwarts of the animation voice industry like Jess Harnell, David Kaye, Tara Strong and EG Daly. Pretty good for a film aimed pre-schoolers and being released to Video on Demand services the same day.

Not featured in the trailer is Owen Wilson as Ricky The Dragon. Director Gladstone sent me this Crayon Collection PSA (below) which features Wilson’s character. That’s Jessica Capshaw as the Duck and Christina Ricci as the Yellow Crayon).
