Joining Farrell will be the long rumored Vince Vaughn, with the official logline indicating the basic outline of the story: Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.
As for the characters they’ll be playing, Farrell will take the role of Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his superiors in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Meanwhile, Vaughn will portray Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.
Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes of the season, and while there’s no word yet on the plethora of other names in the rumor mill, HBO will announce them as they are signed. Production begins this fall and “True Detective” returns next summer. Until then, here’s a seven-minute tribute to the show.
