Magnolia Pictures has released a trailer for Swedish film director Ruben Ostlund’s fourth feature film, “Force Majeure,” which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival back in May and subsequently garnered Ostlund the prestigious Un Certain Regard Jury Prize.
The film centers on a Swedish family that nearly gets killed by an avalanche during their vacation in the French alps. In the immediate aftermath of the near-disaster, the character of the father, who fled ahead of his wife and children in the face of danger, must face the emotional consequences for his selfish actions.
Set to the third movement of Vivaldi’s iconic Concerto No. 2 in G minor, the trailer, which you can watch below, is an emotional roller-coaster that will make your stomach turn with discomfort (in the best way possible) as you watch the family’s lives unravel before your eyes.
“Force Majeure” opens in U.S. theaters on October 24 and has been selected by Sweden as the country’s official entry to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Best Foreign-Language film category.
