For his directorial debut, Tommy Lee Jones brings us “The Homesman,” based on Glendon Swarthout’s novel of the same name. The film tells the story of claim jumper George Briggs (Jones), whose life is saved by Mary Bee Cuddy (Hilary Swank). As repayment for the favor, Cuddy asks Briggs to help her bring three insane women across state lines — from Nebraska to Iowa.
Watch the trailer to get a look at the picturesque Midwestern setting and star-studded cast which includes John Lithgow and Meryl Streep. The film will be a family affair for Streep — daughter Grace Gummer (“Frances Ha”) is also among the cast.
The film will be released in theaters on November 14.
