Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos announced this morning the entire six-episode first season of British crime drama “Peaky Blinders” will make its US debut exclusively via the streaming giant at the end of this month.
Starring Cillian Murphy (“Inception,” “28 Days Later”) opposite Sam Neill (“Jurassic Park”), Helen McCrory (“Hugo”) and Annabelle Wallis (“The Tudors”), the period drama is set in 1919 Birmingham, England and follows the eponymous gang as they make money on the black market from illegal bookmaking. When a crate of guns comes into the possession of gang leader Thomas Shelby (Murphy), he seizes the opportunity to gain more power, all while being pursued by a ruthless Belfast police chief (Nieill).
“‘Peaky Blinders’ captivated audiences in the UK with its compelling storylines, powerful performances and stunningly beautiful imagery, and we cannot wait for our US audience to experience the series for the first time on Netflix,” said Sarandos. “We are thrilled to add this must-see series to our roster of exclusive content in the U.S.”
The new trailer, embedded below, gives a quick peek of what to expect from the sweeping gangster drama, including tons of gunslinging shootouts and 1919-era parties that would be right at home on HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.” The entire first season of “Peaky Blinders” will drop on September 30, with a Season 2 launch planned for November.
