For his feature-length directorial debut, Charlie Paul took on the story of Ralph Steadman, cartoonist and frequent collaborator with the late Hunter S. Thompson. Steadman accompanied Thompson on the journalist’s eclectic exploits, and he documented Thompson with a quirky, iconic style.
Paul’s documentary, narrated by Johnny Depp, delves into the complex relationship between Steadman and Thompson. While Steadman was a creative collaborator on notable projects like “The Curse of Lono,” in this exclusive clip he recounts that Thompson was often difficult, even abusive. Steadman goes so far as to compare their relationship to that of Thompson and his pet bird.
