Jigsaw is back with his twisted games and horrific torture porn. But this isn’t just another bloody 3D sequel. In honor of the film’s 10th anniversary, Lionsgate is re-releasing the original “Saw” on — you guessed it — October 31.
“Saw” has become a massive franchise with a devoted cult following. But, the horror flick came from humble beginnings: Australian director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell had trouble getting the film off the ground, eventually making it for a production budget of around $1 million. The response? About $103 million in worldwide box office revenue. Though the first film was intended to be a mystery thriller, this relatively minor moment of appendage gore ignited a reinvigoration of the torture porn genre — something that “Saw” has obviously used to its advantage in the sequels.
