Xavier Dolan’s ‘Mommy’ Selected As Canada’s Official Oscar Entry

Xavier Dolan's 'Mommy' Selected As Canada's Official Oscar Entry

As if things couldn’t be going any better for Xavier Dolan. The future is so bright for this kid that he’s gotta wear shades. Hot out of Cannes with the Jury Prize for his sensational “Mommy,” the wunderkind now has Oscar glory in his sights.

Canada has selected “Mommy” to be their official Oscar entry for Best Foreign Language Film. Of course, it’s a long road from submission to nomination, but right now Dolan is very, very hot. He’s already lining up his his English language debut, “The Death And Life Of John F. Donovan,” with Jessica Chastain to star. And while there is considerable buzz, of all the branches, the Foreign Language branch can be pretty unpredictable at times, so it’ll be interesting to see if Dolan’s cachet carries weight with that crowd.

“Mommy” opens today in Quebec. If you live in Montreal, you can see the film avec sous-titres en anglais. Roadside Attractions will release the film in the U.S. Here’s our rave review.
