Chadwick Boseman Inks 5-Picture Deal w/ Marvel + Studio Chief Talks 'Black Panther' Director Plans

An addendum to today’s news that Chadwick Boseman has been cast as Black Panther, with a movie based on the superhero dated for November 3, 2017…

Per Deadline, Boseman has inked a “lucrative five-film deal” with Disney/Marvel that will see him appear in multiple Marvel universe movie adaptations, starting in 2016, with “Captain America: Civil War.”

That means speculation of a Black Panther intro in next year’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” may actually not occur after all. Unless it’ll just be a tease of what’s to come.

But this is obviously great news for Mr Boseman, who I recall first writing about on this blog, when he starred in a little indie film titled “The Killhole” in 2011; although it certainly wasn’t his first film. It was soon after that when he was tapped for the Jackie Robinson biopic, “42,” and the rest is history…

By the way, when asked earlier today whether a black director would be hired to direct the Black Panther movie, Marvel chief Kevin Feige said the following: “We’re looking for the best directors possible,” adding that, “Reggie I’ve known for many years and is a great guy – I think I’m meeting him again shortly.”

Of course, the Reggie he references is Reggie Hudlin, who, by the way, shepherded a Black Panther cartoon series a few years ago, and who actually wrote several issues of the Black Panther comic book in the early to late-2000s. So he’s certainly intimately familiar with the material.

In what capacity might Feige be meeting with him to discuss the Black Panther movie – assuming that meeting will happen, based on Feige’s quote above? I would assume it would be more in a producer or consultant capacity, if only because I’d be shocked if Marvel did go with a black director for the project. Pleasantly shocked, but still shocked.

Stay tuned…

Who would you like to see direct the film?
