If anything convinces you to watch the series premiere of “The Affair,” let it be “Container,” the eerie tune Fiona Apple composed for the title sequence. Her unsettling folk melody, along with the minimalist instrumentals, sets a tone we can only hope will be reflected in the series.
Apple reconstructed the previously unreleased song after being approached by “The Affair” creator Sarah Treem. “Fiona Apple has been my favorite songwriter since I was sixteen,” said Treem (“House of Cards,” “In Treatment”) in a release. “I am honored and humbled that she has chosen to lend her talent to our opening title sequence. If our show can approach one tenth of the depth and complexity of her song, I’ll be very happy.”
“The Affair” stars Ruth Wilson and Joshua Jackson as a couple experiencing the psychological effects of an extramarital affair. The series explores the unique perspectives of the husband and wife, using memory bias to tell their respective stories. Check out the title sequence below, then watch the premiere on Sunday, October 12.
