The Bay-area jam band the Grateful Dead will be the subject of a new untitled documentary executive produced by the patron saint of rockumentary filmmaking, Martin Scorsese, and directed by documentarian Amir Bar-Lev.

Plans for a documentary come just as the band gets ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.
According to a report on Deadline Hollywood earlier today, the documentary will include never-before-seen footage from both onstage and backstage, as well as interviews with the band’s surviving members, who continue to perform today.
