Monterey Media has acquired “Big Muddy,” the updated Western that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September. The film stars Nadia Litz (“After the Harvest,” “Monkey Warfare”), Stephen McHattie (“300,” “Watchmen”), James Le Gros (“Vantage Point,” “Drugstore Cowboy”) and Justin Kelly (“Degrassi: The Next Generation”)
The film, written and directed by Jefferson Moneo, follows the story of a female fugitive on the run from her past. Per Monterey’s synopsis, “an outlaw tale played out as a modern day murder ballad, Big Muddy follows grifter Martha Barlow who must come to terms with her dark past after her teenage son commits a horrible crime. On the run to survive, she must dodge her sociopathic revenge-seeking former flame, and attempt to reconcile with her son’s dangerous and long forgotten father in order to protect her estranged family.”
Producer Bob Crowe of Canada’s Angel Entertainment and Monterey Media’s Scott Mansfield collaborated on the deal and have their mind set on an early 2015 release date.
