Tweetable Logline: Granted day release from a mental health facility to attend a funeral, Brian takes his son on a road trip that neither will soon forget.
Elevator Pitch: “Open Roads” tells the story of Brian, a bipolar man who is allowed to leave his psychiatric treatment center for his mother’s funeral. When he reunites with his six-year-old son David, he sees that his son is miserable living with Brian’s sister and brother-in-law. Fearful that his son’s happiness is at stake, Brian decides to take matters into his own hands and escapes with David on an impromptu road trip. About the film: “Open Roads” began as my personal response to witnessing stigma against individuals with mental health conditions, as well as a lack of understanding in media portrayals. Looking beyond the labels of diagnosis, Open Roads tells the story of a young father who is trying to be the guardian his son deserves. It is a story about the choices we make for those we love and, ultimately, a story about hope in the face of an uncertain world.
Current Status: Fundraising for production in November 2014
