Project of the Day: ‘The Canal’

Project of the Day: 'The Canal'

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress — at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

The Canal

Tweetable Logline: The Love Canal cocktail: Mix three families with 22,000 tons of toxic chemicals. Shake well.

Elevator Pitch: Of the 80,000 chemicals in everyday use only 2% have been tested for their health effects on humans and yet we face a seemingly mysterious rise in cancers, asthma, autism. The Canal tells the story of how a community who saw the connection clearly and did something about it.

Production Team:
Will Battersby – Director / Producer
Wren Arthur – Producer
April Merl – Editor
Gillian Arthur – Sound Mixer
Evan Pohl – Co-producer
Frederic Fasano – Director of Photography

About the film: People, especially children, should not be exposed to toxic chemicals in everyday products or in waste streams but we all are, constantly. There is a direct link between exposure and cancer, childhood leukemia, asthma, autism, you name it. I hope this film inspires people to demand better and to demand change.

Current Status: We just launched our Indiegogo campaign to raise the finishing funds.
