Watch: First Trailer For 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron,' Brings Mass Destruction Along With Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver

It’s hard to believe that “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” is just a mere seven months away from hitting theaters. In the blink of an eye, the movie went from being the subject of ceaseless speculation to having been shot and primed to obliterate the box office next year. And the first trailer is here —leaked online in advance of next week’s scheduled premiere of “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.“— and it promises massive destruction!

If you thought the city-obliterating finale of “The Avengers” might’ve been over the top, it seems Joss Whedon and co. are bringing even more carnage and mayhem this time around. That’s not surprising, since you can’t follow up a billion dollar movie featuring such wholesale devastation with a more subtle take on the genre, can you? This trailer indicates that ‘A.A.O.U.” seems to following the Marvel template pretty closely, with the gang back together to confront another bad guy, this time Ultron, a robot bent on destroying human life on Earth. But maybe there’s another side to the film?

“There’s a humerous aspect to him, which is something that drew me in from the very first conversation I had with Joss [Whedon],” James Spader who voices Ultron told Total Film. “In many ways he’s a child, this character, because he’s a brand new being who’s just come to be. And yet, through artificial intelligence, he has an incredible capacity for knowledge. So he’s a very powerful, smart child.”

In any case, all the familiar Avengers will be joined by new recruits Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). As for the latter? Sorry Whedon, Bryan Singer version of the character still has you topped with “X-Men: Days Of Future Past,” at least at first glance. There’s also a shot of the Hulk versus Iron Man’s Hulkbuster armor, which is something that will please the comic faithful.

‘Age Of Ultron’ arrives on May 1, 2015.

Update: Marvel has released the official version, see below.
