Watch: How the 'Blair Witch Project' Team Made Found Footage Go Viral

Academy Originals, the Academy web series which examines the creative process, the moments that changed the course of filmmaking and the artists charting its future, is celebrating the 15th anniversary of “The Blair Witch Project” with a behind-the-scenes video full of cast and crew commentary on the horror classic.

The micro-budgeted “Blair Witch Project” and its blockbuster gross have become the stuff of movie legend, and rightfully so, considering just how controlled the film’s raw terror escalates. With Halloween quickly approaching, now’s the perfect time to join writer-directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez, producer Gregg Hale and stars Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams as they reflect on the “found footage” craze they jump-started, the performance methods they used to achieve a horrific atmosphere and the way in which they used the Internet for viral marketing.

Clearly, “Blair Witch” was a film way ahead of its time.
