Special effects makeup artists have historically been the driving force behind what makes a movie “magical.” But, since the dawn of the digital age, makeup artists have had to adapt their style and technique to rediscover where they fit in the movie-making business.
Since he was just a regular teenager making body parts in his kitchen, Rick Baker has always had an affinity for constructing creatures, monsters and primates. Over the course of his career, he has created extraordinary makeup effects for “King Kong,” “Planet of the Apes,” “The Grinch,” and many more. Baker too has adapted to fit the new demands of digital cinema and will be preserving his art and legacy in the new Academy museum scheduled to open in 2017.
