How many times can Mark Wahlberg get punched in the face and get back up again? According to “The Gambler,” a lot!
This red band teaser has just hit the net, and from the looks of it director Rupert Wyatt is looking to reinvent the classic. Written by “The Departed” scribe William Monahan, this version of “The Gambler” is reportedly pretty much based on the exact same original script from the ’70s, with original writer James Toback serving as an executive producer. Karel Reisz’s 1974 version of “The Gambler” starred James Caan and Lauren Hutton. Mark Wahlberg has taken over Caan’s role as a seemingly moral professor who suffers from, you guessed it, a gambling problem. Brie Larson, Michael K. Williams, Jessica Lange and John Goodman co-star.
“The Gambler” hits theaters in limited release on December 19, just in time for a potential (unlikely?) awards season run, with a wider release in January of 2015. Check out the teaser below:
