The horror sequel is in tricky territory: it must find fresh scares and must push the story forward to new places. But often, that means either a) having the same characters get terrified again, or b) putting new characters in the old location where spooky happenings occurred. And for “The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death,” they’re taking the latter route with a bit of time jump too.
The sequel to the very good 2012 “The Woman In Black,” starring Daniel Radcliffe, now finds Jeremy Irvine in the lead. The year is 1941, the blitz is on, and some schoolteachers evacuate children and take them to Eel Marsh House. And of course things get creepy. On the plus side, the setting ripe with potential and thematic resonance, but on the other, this trailer makes the movie seem like your standard jump-scare routine. But perhaps that’s just the marketing, and hopefully this followup is a worthy companion to its predecessor.
‘Angel Of Death’ opens on January 2nd. [HeyUGuys]
