Yann Demange’s war movie “’71” starring Jack O’Connell topped today’s nominations for the 17th Moet British Independent Film Awards. The festival favorite earned nine nominations, including British independent film, director, screenplay and actor. The film is set in 1971 in Northern Ireland, where an English recruit (O’Connell) is called to Belfast where he gets caught between the battling Protestants and Catholics. Matthew Warchus’ crowd-pleasing “Pride” followed with seven nominations, while “Catch Me Daddy,” “Frank” and “Mr Turner” all nabbed five nominations each.
