Chad Coleman Joins Cast of New Syfy TV Series 'The Expanse' (Might This Signal the Fate of His 'Walking Dead' Character?)

Chad Coleman, who took time away from “The Walking Dead” to guest-star on this week’s episode of “Law & Order: SVU,” playing a former athlete in a Ray Rice-like situation, has joined the cast of Syfy’s upcoming new space drama “The Expanse,” which is based on the bestselling book series by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck.

He joins Thomas Jane and Steven Strait in the galaxy-spanning story of a hardened detective (played by Jane) and rogue ship captain (Strait) who team up to find a missing girl, and find themselves in an interplanetary conspiracy.

Coleman will play a supporting character named Fred Johnson, who’s described as a former Marine caught in a power struggle between Earth and Mars.

The 10-episode drama is written by the writers of “Children of Men” and “Iron Man” – Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby – who will serve as showrunners on teh Syfy series, as well executive produce with Naren Shankar (“CSI”). The series

“The Expanse” is set to premiere in 2015.

I’m curious if Coleman’s casting might be foretelling the fate of his “Walking Dead” character, Tyreese – as in, might he become zombie dinner before the end of the season, allowing him to then move over to the Syfy series, or will he appear in both series, simultaneously, which is certainly possible, depending on when this new series debuts?
