First-time filmmaker David Thorpe has had his film, “Do I Sound Gay?” picked up by Sundance Selects for distribution throughout North America.
“Do I Sound Gay?” is a documentary that examines the anxiety around “the gay voice,” specifically within the gay community. Throughout the film, which includes interviews with prominent gay public figures such as Dan Savage, Tim Gunn, George Takei and David Sedaris, Thorpe not only grapples with larger issues, but also must confront his discomfort with his own voice.
According to President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films Jonathan Sehring, “Do I Sound Gay?” is a film that “wonderfully showcases David’s humor and honesty in the face of a difficult subject.”
“Do I Sound Gay?” had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September and is slated to open DOC NYC tomorrow night. Sundance Selects is eyeing to release the film theatrically during the early part of summer next year.
