When Toni Morrison speaks, I listen. I always love watching her in conversation, whether solo, or with others (a host, an audience, etc). I suddenly feel even more enlightened! She’s quite the treasure, at 83 years old; quite a profound life lived.
Here she is chatting with Stephen Colbert on his show last night, during which she talked about reading her own books, believing in herself as a writer, and her own work, whether she considers herself an "African American writer" (broaching issues of the complexity of what we call identity), race as a social construct, and more.
It’s a short conversation, but fun to watch and listen to.
