“For me, the starting point of the movie is a familiar Earth. We didn’t put a lot of futurism in the designs,” Christopher Nolan told USA Today about “Interstellar.” “I wanted to carry that tone into the spacecraft, not jump too far in the future.” And you can get a sense of both of those priorities in these new clips from the film.
The first clip finds Jessica Chastain‘s character on a dust-filled Earth that is slowly dying, while in the second clip Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey try to get along as they endeavor to save mankind with a mission to the deepest reaches of space. Realized with Nolan’s preference for practical effects, the scenes promise that “Interstellar” will attempt to strike the tricky balance between imagination and realism on a grand scale.
“Interstellar” opens on Wednesday in select cinemas and goes wide on Friday. Watch below along with some new images.
