Opening and then expanding a movie across several weeks requires a carefully executed strategy. You don’t want to blow your marketing load on New York and Los Angeles and then have nothing left in the tank when your film opens in other cities. The studio has released a fake trailer for “Birdman Returns” starring Riggan Thomson, Michael Keaton‘s character in the movie about a former superhero movie star mounting a Broadway comeback. And this promo adds to the layers of meta-movie reality, playing on Keaton’s “Batman Returns” released in 1992 like this fake movie. Simple, yet really effective. We’ll say no more: just watch below.
