It’s long way to Oscars, especially if your film debuted months earlier at the Cannes Film Festival and has to reheat buzz, and especially if your movie is dark, brooding drama about a tragic real life event. But Sony Pictures Classics is all in for “Foxcatcher,” which starts rolling out to theaters next weekend, and a handful of new looks at the movie are here.
Starring the trio of Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo, the story documents the bizarre and sad true tale of the eccentric and rich John du Pont, who wants to train an elite Olympics wrestling team, including two brothers who cross his path. And in this Anatomy Of A Scene from The New York Times, director Bennett Miller discusses a sequence that acts as an “example of these actors really owning who they are,” to the point where the filmmaker says he feels like it was shooting a documentary.
It’s a lot to dig into, so check it out below. “Foxcatcher” hits the mat on November 14th.
