Watch: 'Code Black' Director on Juggling Medical Residency & Filmmaking

Code Black” director and medical resident Ryan McGarry joined “Somewhere Between” producer Linda Goldstein Knowlton, and Academy Award winner (“The Long Way Home”) Mark Jonathan Harris at the IDA documentay screening series. 

Documentary Magazine editor Tom White chaired the discussion of the thought provoking film, which explores the complexities of America’s health care system. 

Los Angeles County General Hospital has the busiest emergency departments in the U.S., and McGarry documented the provocative film while completing a demanding residency. “I loved being a physician. I love that institution, and I think I loved the idea of sharing the story with the world,” said McGarry.
