“When people think of Marco Polo, they tend to think of a mapmaker and explorer,” begins “Marco Polo” creator-executive producer John Fusco in this new behind-the-scenes featurette.
For Netflix’s new series, Fusco and his team had to rely on stories that are partially legend and partially historically accurate. The features sets up the premise: Marco Polo is determined to be the next great merchant. But when one of his father’s deals goes wrong, he is forced into indentured servitude (as an honored guest!) in the kingdom of Kublai Khan. From there, Polo woos woman, fights with knives, and begins his epic journey into becoming a legend.
As Fusco says, the series looks to be, “an action-packed, silk road journey.”
