Actress DeWanda Wise Set to Make Her Screenwriting & Directorial Debut (Fundraising)

Actress DeWanda Wise is set to make her screenwriting and directorial film debut with the upcoming short film, “Where You Go,” to be filmed in NYC this winter.

Wise was the star of the Hallmark movie, “Firelight,” alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. Her other film credits include “Spinning into Butter,” “Steam,” “Precious,” and shorts “Pariah” and “Black Swan Theory.” She has also performed on the television shows “Boardwalk Empire,” “Criminal Intent,” “Law & Order SVU,” “The Good Wife,” “The Mentalist,” “The Unusuals,” and “One Life to Live.”

“Where You Go” chronicles a critical weekend in the lives of Samantha and Conrad Stone, a young married couple living in New York. When they made their vows, neither could predict just how soon “worse” would come. “Where You Go” is a film about dealing with the hand you’re dealt, and our subsequent coping mechanisms. It’s about the nature of relationship when life does not present us with the rosy future we envision when we say, “I do.”

Slated to perform in the film is performance poet, Eboni Hogan. Eboni is the 2010 Women of the World Poetry Slam champion, 2010 Underground Indies Slam Champion, 2008 Urbana Grand Slam champion, and a two-time representative of the Nuyorican Slam Team. Her first collection of poems, “Grits,” was nominated for a 2010 Pushcart Prize.

Actor Frank De Julio has also been cast. Frank has appeared on television shows “Blue Bloods,” “Smash,” “Criminal Justice,” “Gossip Girl,” “White Collar,” “Law & Order” and “As The World Turns.” He starred in the HBO’s Emmy Award-winning “The Normal Heart” and is in the new Liam Neeson movie “A Walk Among the Tombstones.”

The director of photography for the film is Ben Stamper (“Horse & Rider: A Journey Towards Freedom”).

The film is currently raising funds through IndieGoGo, and with 25 days to go, has raised about half of its $22,000 goal.
