‘Game of Thrones’ Gets Interactive With Telltale’s Video Game Adaptation

'Game of Thrones' Gets Interactive With Telltale's Video Game Adaptation

HBO and Telltale Games have answered the prayers of many, releasing “Game of Thrones” — the video game! Fans craving a return to George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe can start playing on gaming consoles, iPhones, iPads or PCs right now.

This new adventure, in the style of past critically-acclaimed Telltale releases like “The Walking Dead” and “Tales from the Borderlands,” is a point-and-click-style game, with an interactive format that allows the player’s decisions to affect the way things unfold in the narrative. According to Telltale’s official site, “Our games are designed to allow anyone to play (rating allowing), regardless of their experience as a ‘gamer.’ The difficulty comes not in mastering controls, but in being forced to make tough decisions with far-reaching consequences.”

Rather than focusing on existing characters, “Iron From Ice” stars a family that has yet to appear on the TV series — House Forrester, who rule the Ironwood of northern Westeros. (So far, in Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” books, the Forresters have only been mentioned briefly, in “A Dance with Dragons.”) The story begins, time-wise, towards the end of the show’s third season, and offers a unique chance to not only get to know this family better, but interact with established characters like Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) and Ramsay Snow (Iwan Rheon). (The actors reprise their character voices for the game.)
