James Franco and Hal Hartley Films to Screen at Berlin Film Festival

Yesterday the 2015 Berlin International Film Festival revealed some of its competition titles (including Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”). Today the festival’s revealed the first 19 films that make up the Panorama section.

Justin Kelly’s directorial debut “I Am Michael,” co-produced by Gus Van Sant, is one of the highest profile films set to screen. The drama stars James Franco as a gay rights activist who tries to turn straight. Zachary Quinto and Emma Roberts also star. Other highlights include Hal Hartley’s latest “Ned Rifle,” starring Aubrey Plaza, and the world premiere of Mark Christopher’s “54: The Director’s Cut.” The original film, which was released 17 years ago, was reportedly heavily edited by its investors.

Additionally the festival announced the Panorama’s Teddy Award will be held on February 13, with the Special Teddy going to Udo Kier.

Below are the newly announced films playing in Berlin. The festival runs February 5-15, 2015.
