After leaning heavily on Hannah’s (Lena Dunham) move to the Midwest to attend the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in the last trailer, the Girls marketing team wants you to know that the core group is still staying together.
The new spot for the upcoming season (starting Jan. 11) catches us up on where the rest of the girls are now: Marnie (Alison Williams) is waiting for another dude to get his shit together, Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) is still fuming over her ex sleeping with her friend, and lost-as-ever Jessa is spouting her new life motto — “the heart wants what the heart wants” — which was Woody Allen’s explanation for taking up with his ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow’s adoptive daughter Soon-Yi Previn. Gaby Hoffman returns as Adam’s kooky older sister who not-so-subtly undermines Hannah and Adam’s relationship. So the girls of Girls are still, well, recognizably themselves.
The promo does suggest, though, that Hannah is willing to face change. “I have no idea what’s coming next,” she says, uncertain but not exactly fearful — and inexplicably covered in blue paint, cheering herself on.
