With just a few weeks before its premiere, Universal Pictures has released a behind the scenes featurette on Angelina Jolie’s second directorial feature, “Unbroken,” which includes both Jolie and the real-life Louis Zamperini.
With a screenplay written by the Academy Award-winning Coen brothers, Richard LaGravenese (“Behind the Candelabra”) and William Nicholson (“Les Miserables”), “Unbroken” delves into Zamperini’s story as an olympic runner and survivor of a Japanese prisoner of war camp during World War II. Having crashed in the ocean, Zamperini and his fellow airmen survived for 47 days, adrift on a raft before being picked up by Japanese war forces to be sent to a POW camp. Jack O’Connell stars as Zamperini, with Finn Wittrock and Domnhall Gleeson as his fellow soldiers.
Jolie offers some insight into her reasons for making the film and a look at her relationship with Zamperini, who also adds a few inspiring words. Zamperini passed away in July of this year. “Unbroken” hits theaters on December 25. Check out the featurette below.:
