The new teaser announcing the upcoming remastered marathon of HBO’s “The Wire” may not show any of the actual updated footage, but it still makes the landmark drama series’ return to television one of the year’s can’t miss events.
As HBO announced at the start of the month, “The entire series has been beautifully re-mastered in 16×9 Full-Frame HD from more than 8,000 reels of original 35mm camera negative, allowing for a tighter fit on widescreen TVs and computer/tablet screens. The original negatives were scanned, edited, dust-busted and color-corrected with great care and attention taken to stay true to the look and feel of the original Standard-Definition 4×3 version.”
While the long term effects of the restoration have been worrying diehard fans (many are especially nervous that the HD quality will mess with the show’s atmosphere of grounded ’90s realism), the upcoming marathon means those who have yet to give the show a chance due to its original ratio not filling up the entirety of their computer screens finally have no reason not to tune in (and we assume these people number in the billions). If you’re included in the group who hasn’t seen what is arguably television’s greatest drama, now’s your chance.
Watch the HBO teaser below, and let us know if you like it better than the very similar version that leaked early oh so many months ago. “The Wire” remastered marathon begins December 26.
