Watch: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Takes 'The Walk' In First Trailer For Robert Zemeckis' 3D Showcase

“The caper is really compelling. It’s outrageous,” Robert Zemeckis told EW about the true tale at the heart of “The Walk.” “It’s the story of an artist who risks his life to create a performance.” And to honor that feat, the director is hoping to make 3D-weary audiences care about the format once again.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt takes the lead in the movie playing Philippe Petit, who walked on a literal tightrope between the World Trade Center towers in 1974. Ben Kingsley plays his mentor with James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Charlotte Le Bon, Clément Sibony and César Domboy among the folks who collaborated with Petit to make it happen. If this all sounds familiar, that’s because it wasn’t that long ago when James Marsh told the tale in his Oscar-winning documentary “Man On Wire.” But that wasn’t in photo-realistic IMAX 3D, so…
