American scientist Bill Andrews and his bearded British counterpart Aubrey de Grey are trying to “cure aging…or die trying” in “The Immortalists.” Andrews is a 60-year-old, health-conscious man, while Grey is a beer-drinking polygamist whose methods differ as much as their lifestyles.
The film follows the two as they attempt to find a “solution” to death, and discusses the social and moral implications of such a feat. It is Andrew’s and Grey’s personal reasons for trying to “cure aging” that shed light on how their parental relationships sparked an intense desire to live longer.
