It was the 88-second teaser trailer seen around the world over and over and over again since its debut at the start of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, and now the rapturously received “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” teaser is getting the DIY-parody treatment courtesy of several quick-witted Youtube users.
Considering just how important fandom is to the “Star Wars” universe, it’s not surprising so many of the franchise’s most enthusiastic fans whipped up fake trailers using LEGOs and original director George Lucas for inspiration over the long holiday weekend. You could even say the teaser’s basic, easily imitated structure (ominous narration over seven quick tantalizing images, all separated by a fade to black) helped bring about such an abundance of parodies. With such a simple format ripe for all kinds of parody (including that last money shot of the Millennium Falcon), it was only a matter of time before we got the Chamillioniare/”Star Wars” mashup we never knew we needed.
