‘Wild’ Takes the Stage Amid Pre-Holiday Awards Rollout

'Wild' Takes the Stage Amid Pre-Holiday Awards Rollout

Fox Searchlight’s Reese Witherspoon Best Actress vehicle grossed $630,000 with a $30,000 PSA, which is terrific considering it wasn’t as limited an opening as its Oscar rivals scoring $30,000-plus per screen, “Foxcatcher,” “The Imitation Game,” and “The Theory of Everything,” “Wild” not only opens in 13 more markets next week, but will broaden to 90-100 theaters by December 12 and go wide by Christmas.

“Wild” has the benefit of a major star making a comeback as well as a good shot going forward at securing the chronically underserved women’s audience.

The Weinstein Company’s Alan Turing biopic “The Imitation Game” continues to please crowds. TWC added only four theaters, so they kept their PSA high ($50,196) for the next best second weekend per-theater average of the year (after “The Grand Budapest Hotel”). TWC will broaden the film next weekend to six more exclusive runs plus more screens in NY and LA for a total 30-35 theaters. Steady as they go.
