2015 Golden Globe Predictions: Best Director

2015 Golden Globe Predictions: Best Director

Indiewire’s Awards Editor Peter Knegt will provide regular updates on the Golden Globe film races leading up to the nominations announcement December 11 at 8am ET.

Wes Anderson and David Fincher were somewhat unexpected nominees here, leaving a genuine three horse race between Alejandro González Iñárritu, Richard Linklater and Ava DuVernay. Any of them could win, and if it ends up being DuVernay she’d be only the second woman to win here, and the first since 1983 when Barbra Streisand won for “Yentl” (and then went on to be snubbed by the Academy).

The Nominees:
Wes Anderson, “The Grand Budapest Hotel”
Ava DuVernay, “Selma”
David Fincher, “Gone Girl”
Alejandro González Iñárritu, “Birdman”
Richard Linklater, “Boyhood”

Will Win: Richard Linklater, “Boyhood”
Could Win: Ava DuVernay, “Selma”
Should Win: Alejandro González Iñárritu, “Birdman”
Shoulda Been Here: Damien Chazelle, “Whiplash”
