“The Bad Batch” promises to be yet another genre-bending film from director Amirpour, who burst from Sundance onto the indie scene and won a Gotham Award for her subversive and darkly witty B&W debut “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.”
Plot details remain under wraps, but this “dystopian love story set in a Texas wasteland” will be written and directed by Amirpour, and produced by VICE (who also headed up “Girl Walks”) and Annapurna Pictures, which is spearheaded by whip-smart Megan Ellison.
Ellison will produce alongside VICE’s Danny Gabai and Sina Sayyah. Annapurna’s Sammy Scher will be the executive overseeing the day-to-day development and production of the project while VICE’s Shane Smith and Eddy Moretti will Executive Produce. Justine Baddeley and Kim Davis-Wagner are currently casting the project.
As with their previous collaboration, A24’s mind-bending”Spring Breakers,” VICE and Annapurna will work together to reach a young and savvy global audience — and if that’s the goal, VICE and Megan Ellison are no-brainers.
