‘Girls’ Renewed for Season 5 by HBO

'Girls' Renewed for Season 5 by HBO

Ratings? Who needs ratings?

Despite making us squirm for months over whether “The Leftovers” would be picked up for a second season (it was), HBO continued its standard practice of renewing shows early by announcing a fifth season of “Girls” will be headed our way come 2016.

Michael Lombardo, HBO’s president of programming, told Variety about the pick up at the New York premiere of the series’ fourth season.

HBO traditionally orders new seasons of its shows quickly after their premiere, if not earlier. “Game of Thrones” was famously picked up for Seasons 5 and 6 a day after its smashing Season 4 debut

“Girls” debuts its fourth season Sunday, January 11 at 9pm before the series premiere of “Togetherness” at 9:30pm.
