Lawsuits against colleges around the country are on the rise because of the institutions’ inability to properly handle cases of sexual assault on campus. Director Lisa F. Jackson’s latest documentary “It Happened Here” examines the hot-button issue of campus assault through the lens of five individual students.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “Through the intimate portraits of five student survivors, ‘It Happened Here’ exposes the alarming pervasiveness of sexual assault on college campuses, the institutional cover-ups and the failure to protect students, and follows their fight for accountability and change on campus and in federal court. The film follows campus rape victims who are further victimized by a rape culture through each college’s administrations fears of bad publicity. These heroic individuals have become a voice for change to push for legislative support in protecting students.”
“It Happened Here” debuts on Pivot.tv (Participant Media’s TV network) beginning January 21 and on all VOD/Digital platforms January 22.
