In this exclusive preview for the LA Times and EPIX new original series “Hollywood Sessions,” directors J.C. Chandor (“A Most Violent Year”), Richard Linklater (“Boyhood”), James Marsh. (“The Theory of Everything”), Bennett Miller (“Foxcatcher”) and Jean-Marc Vallée (“Wild”) dive into their filmmaking process.
In the first clip, Linklater discusses just how much convincing he needed to do in order to get Patricia Arquette to sign on to a 12-year commitment (hint: it wasn’t much at all) and how he adjusted the script according to star Ellar Coltrane’s development over the years. Naturally, the other directer’s sound infatuated with Linklater’s process.
In the second clip, Linklater discusses his preference for extensive rehearsals before shooting; a luxury that not all of the directors are able to have.
The series continues on EPIX tonight at 8pm and will be available on latimes.com/theenvelope, EPIX.com, EPIX On Demand and via the EPIX app. Check out the clips below:
