Halle Berry Sells Action-Comedy Pitch to Universal, Titled 'Mother,' to Star in

Adding to her to-do list, Halle Berry has sold an action-comedy pitch to Universal Pictures, after what Deadline says was some competitive bidding – i.e., other studios wanted the project too.

Titled “Mother,” plot details are currently underwraps, but Berry will star in it.

Pablo Fenjves, primarily a TV writer, has been hired to pen screenplay.

Berry and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas will produce through their 606 Films Production banner, which they launched last year to produce “socially conscious” work, in the spirit of the company’s name (after the anti-paparazzi bill that Berry pushed, which California Gov. Jerry Brown signed it into law in 2013).

Berry recently wrapped production on the kidnapping thriller, “Kidnap,” which was picked up by Relativity Studios, and is described as a heart-stopping action thriller that will follow a mother (Berry) who will stop at nothing to rescue her kidnapped son.

Berry also is executive producing that project with her producing partner, Goldsmith-Thomas, via their 606 Films production banner,

Spanish filmmaker Luis Prieto (“Pusher”) is directing, with a script penned by Knate Gwaltney.

Also on 606 Films’ slate is season 2 of CBS’s summer event series “Extant,” in which Berry stars‎.

And there’s a new CBS medical drama series which 606 is producing, currently untitled, which centers on an enigmatic surgeon who imprisons himself in a state-of-the-art private hospital on the grounds of a prison.
